RUNCORN RLC 46 Wigan Riversiders 36 - June 03, 2009, 10:43:41 AM
Some great summer rugby on show in blistering conditions as Runcorn put the Riversiders to the sword.
Runcorn posted back to back victories in an entertaining game against new boys Wigan Riversiders.
The home side where first to score with some superb craft from hooker Lepts to bury his way over from acting half.
With the visitors having the hill to their advantage in the first half, Runcorn knew that they where going to be involved in a tough game as both sides swapped tries for fun.
Once again Runcorns forwards, led by Forshaw, Syers, Kelly and Dunne dominated their bigger opponents to set up great field position time and time again.
Runcorn capitalised when slick handling from new half back McAdam saw Worrall go in the corner.
Patterson again on fine form not missing a conversion all day, and bagging another try for himself in the scorcing conditions.
Half time and Runcorn led 24 - 18
2nd half and Runcorn blasted their way down the hill to score quick fire tries from Dempsey and Dunne.
Once again converted by Captain Patterson.
The game was toe to toe for 80mins but Runcorn despite conceding some sloppy tries, where never going to lose.
Further tries from Dunne, Winstanley and Syers put the game to bed.
Coach Calland commented "I am delighted with the win, the lads where superb today, especially as even in 30degrees, our boys did not want to be substituted, that shows to me the commitment of my team."
